BareLedger is cloud accounting software for small and medium businesses. It combines double-entry bookkeeping with CRM, project management and payroll, and it puts the controls auditors look for — maker-checker approval, segregation of duties and a permanent audit trail — on every plan, including the free one.

What BareLedger does
- Accounting — a double-entry general ledger, journal entries, invoices, quotations, sales orders, bills, expenses and recurring transactions, with financial reports that always balance. See the introduction to the guides.
- Banking — bank statement import and reconciliation, with rules for recurring items such as bank fees. See banking and reconciliation.
- Multi-currency — invoices and bills in foreign currencies, exchange-rate tracking and period-end revaluation. See multi-currency.
- Tax compliance — country packs with tax rates, withholding, statutory forms prepared from your books, and e-invoice files in standard formats that you submit yourself. See compliance.
- CRM — a lead pipeline with owners and next actions, a website enquiry form, and quotations customers accept or decline online. See CRM.
- Projects — a kanban board per project with checklists, comments and files, and sign-off for opening, re-budgeting and closing a project. See projects.
- Payroll and people — payroll runs that post one balanced journal, attendance, leave and employee self-service. See payroll.
- AI assistant (beta) — answers questions from the guides and explains the report on your screen; it is read-only and never changes your books. See Ask BareLedger.
- Mobile app and API — approvals, expenses, notifications and employee time on iPhone and Android, and a REST API with user-bound API keys. See the API guides.
How it keeps your books trustworthy
- Three-person sign-off on every transaction, on every plan. One person prepares, a second reviews and a third approves before anything posts, and no role or setting can skip a step.
- Approval limits by amount. Approval bands per module decide who may approve what, and administrators are not exempt.
- A permanent audit trail. Every change records who made it, what changed and when, and posted records are never edited or deleted — corrections are reversals.
- Gapless sequential numbering. Invoices, receipts and journals are numbered atomically, with no gaps and no duplicates.
- Two-factor checks where they matter. A fresh one-time code can be required at the moment of review, approval or posting.
- Separate books per entity. Each organization's data is isolated, with statutory retention periods set per country.
What BareLedger does not do
Knowing the limits saves you a wasted trial. BareLedger currently:
- does not submit returns or e-invoices to any tax authority — it prepares them, and you submit them through your own channel;
- has no bank feeds — statements are imported from a CSV or file upload;
- has no inventory or stock valuation — there is a products and services catalog, not a warehouse;
- has no Gantt charts or resource planning in Projects, and its follow-up reminders go to your team, never to your customers;
- is not built for one person working alone — posting needs three different people to prepare, review and approve.
